The Academics Behind Real Time Strategy Games

Video games are not often thought of as being academically beneficial. Usually, they are viewed as a distractor and an activity that should be avoided at all costs to succeed in school. This line of thinking seems to make sense. However, not all video games are created equal, nor are the skills they emphasize. Some video games including Real Time Strategy (RTS) could be perceived as academically stimulating for students because they reinforce some topics that are challenging to grasp in school. This new medium should be considered as a valid approach to teach traditional skills in a more engaging format.
