Students celebrate Chinese New Year during eighth period

Students gathered in Gym 2 on Feb. 13 to enjoy the Chinese exchange students’ performances, learn about their unique culture and celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The Chinese Honor Society prepared numerous authentic dishes and games to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The exchange students from high schools in Shanghai and Anhui also shared their culture during the eighth period celebration. This included a performance of “Chang Yao” and Wushu, a Chinese martial arts demonstration.

“I am quite astonished because there are many differences between a Chinese high school and TJ,” exchange student Hanyu Chem said. “One thing is that you can eat in class, and it just amazes me. It is kind of like a bad habit in China because it ruins the Chinese class atmosphere. But overall, my experience here has been generally good.”
