Sophomore Sahil Kapadia throws down a dunk against ‘Goon Squad”. “My favorite moment from the Jday tournament was by far Sahil’s dunk because that’s not something you see every day,” junior Audhav Durai said.

This year’s iteration of the annual Jday Basketball 3v3 tournament started on April 25th and ended on Jday, June 3rd. The registration process was made as seamless as possible.

“We tried to make the registration process as easy as we could so all teams had to do was fill out a google form with their team name, team roster, and pay $20 to register their team,” sophomore Anukrit Sharma, who spearheaded running the tournament, said.

The tournament was a widespread success garnering interest from all grade levels and raked in thousands of dollars to be put towards future events held by SGA.

“We had about 57-60 teams with a relatively equal split between all grade levels probably due to our appealing $100 prize for winning. We were able to get around $2000 from registration fees,” Sharma said.

Although the tournament ran smoothly this year in his opinion, Sharma believes there are some minor improvements that could be made.

“The only thing I think should be fixed next year is making the schedule more rigid to give more time for teams to prepare and to schedule the tournament around AP exams and finals better as we had some teams that couldn’t play due to exams,” Sharma said.
