Super Bowl Sunday, an annual American tradition, took place on Sunday Feb. 13, where the Los Angeles Rams won against the Cincinnati Bengals with a score of 23 – 20.

Leading the teams were the two youngest head coaches for both teams. Also present in the audience were celebrities such as Jay Z, Matt Damon, Lebron James, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Affleck.

“I always look forward to watching the Super Bowl because it’s almost like a family tradition. The halftime show and the advertisements are always the best part,” sophomore Vaishnavi Kuriti said.

The Rams were the first to score and add points to the scoreboard. Soon after, the Bengals were effectively able to execute a 29-yard field goal ending the first quarter with a score of 7 to 3.

“I was really surprised at how fast the Rams made their first touchdown and it really set the pace for the rest of the game,” Kuriti said.

Just about two and a half minutes into the second quarter, the Rams scored another touchdown, effectively increasing the Rams lead to 13-3. The Bengals responded with a touchdown and field goal of their own with just 5 minutes and 49 seconds left in the first half, raising the score to 13-10 with the Rams still in the lead. Just before the second quarter ended, the Bengals intercepted a near touchdown for the Rams.

“The second quarter brought the score really close and it was building up a lot of excitement,” sophomore Lindsay Hwang said.

The halftime show showcased Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Eminem.

“I thought the halftime show was really good, even though it was some of the older artists, and I especially liked the theme and layout of the whole performance,”  Hwang said.

As the third quarter started, the Bengals won the second-half kickoff. Less than a minute into the quarter, they completed a 70-yard touchdown and kick, bringing the Bengals into the lead with a score of 13-17. Just five minutes later, the Bengals made a successful field goal which brought the score to 13-20. Soon after, the Rams also made a field goal bringing the score to 16-20, with the Bengals still in the lead.

“The Bengals had a really strong drive in the third quarter,” Kuriti said. “It almost looked like they were about to win.”

With only 1 minute and 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Rams took the lead by scoring their third touchdown of the night, effectively securing the win with a score of 23-20.

“I was hoping that the Bengals would win just because they were the underdogs in the game, it was an unexpected plot twist when the Rams barely scored that last touchdown and won,” Hwang said.

This is the first time the Rams have won a Super Bowl since they became a Los Angeles team.

“The Super Bowl this year was definitely a really close game and I feel like it’s one to remember,” Kuriti said.
