Jefferson crew is successful at first regatta

The Jefferson men’s and women’s crew teams performed well at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA) regatta on Saturday. Men’s varsity, second varsity, junior varsity and third varsity raced, as well as women’s varsity, second varsity and third varsity.

Men’s first and second varsity both got first, with times of 5:43.40 and 5:18.20 respectively. Men’s junior varsity got second to Langley High School and Men’s third varsity placed second to Stone Bridge.

“I think that we did very well given the racing conditions,” senior Joe Downs said. “There was much more rain than anticipated, which, combined with the cold temperatures made it very hard to keep composure.”

The women’s boats also did well. Women’s varsity and second varsity both placed second to Madison High School, but third varsity placed first with a time of 6:07.80.

“I was a little nervous about how it was going to go, but in the end, because of the support of our wonderful team and our excellent coach, we pulled through to first place,” junior Zoe Wang said.
