      Last Thursday, May 20th, TJ Broadcast took a close Last Thursday, May 20th, TJ Broadcast took a closer look at Jefferson's traditional iNite, the yearly event celebrating the many cultural clubs through dance and music, and how the event and its participation has changed as a result of the online year. "A lot of Urban relies on the energy of in-person teaching and practices," senior and UDM president Rose Du said. "So with the online platform, a lot of people don't turn their cameras on, and it's kind of hard to teach people since everyone is watching and learning through a really small screen."       Today, May 25th, TJ Broadcast took a closer look a Today, May 25th, TJ Broadcast took a closer look at sophomore Lucas Ribeiro, one of the very few people at TJ to use public transportation on a consistent weekly basis. In talking about his experience commuting to ultimate frisbee practice, Lucas illustrated some of the advantages and stigma surrounding public transportation. "Sometimes you'll hear people say they can't do something or go somewhere because their parents can't take them there," sophomore Lucas Ribeiro said.       The Jefferson Girls Tennis team has been on a grea The Jefferson Girls Tennis team has been on a great streak this season, winning games despite the shortened season. Last week they had their senior night, where they celebrated the high school tennis careers of three athletes. “Like the other sports teams, we have adapted to new safety protocols and played a compressed season,” senior Lucy Alejandro said. “However, once I get on the court, it’s not that different since it’s the same seventy-eight feet between me and my opponent, just like every other year.” Here are some pictures from the practice and games.

        Virtual teamwork still makes the dream work

      • Tryouts for the girls field hockey team started on Feb. 15, and were held in-person at TJ. “I really hope people join [field hockey] since it’s a really good way to make friends,” Hailey Nguyen, a senior on the varsity team, said. “It’s just a great sport and it’s super fun.”

      • Jefferson Field Hockey players practice drills in COVID-adapted green day practices. The one-on-one passing drill is meant to improve skill while staying safe. “The passing drills are used to have smooth hand eye-coordination on the field, however the highlight of practice are the shooting drills,” said freshman Tessa Joseph.

        Field hockey players adapt to COVID-19 conditions

      • Performing straddle jumps at Cheer Extreme Fairfax, seniors Matthew Hwang and Jenalyn Dizon attend one of their weekly tumbling practices (9/14/2020). To maintain safety protocols while developing cheer skills, these practices hold only about five students, all of whom must wear masks. “Tumbling practices really help the team with their abilities, and it’s so nice to see other team members, even if it isn’t the entire team,” Dizon said.

        Cheer team faces additional regulations for 2020-21 season

      • In the midst of a passing drill, seniors Zoe Winston and Anais Beauvais practice lacrosse on the TJ field. Many aspects of usual lacrosse practices have been modified or cut to conform to safety guidelines. “Obviously, we can’t do contact drills anymore,” Granum said. “We can’t be near each other and we wear masks all the time.”

        Girls Lacrosse team starts conditioning under Phase 3 restrictions

      • Members of the Jefferson cross country team run on campus during an afternoon October meet. Phase 3 practices kept members in shape during the pandemic. “It’s good motivation to be running two times a week since it’s really hard to find time to do workouts,” Junior Erin Tran said.
