The theme of the January 2025 photo issue for tjTODAY was lyrics. Inspired by Britney Spears’s, “Toxic,” this story showcases the results of the flame test lab performed by chemistry students and the chemicals that cause the color change.
A blue flame can appear as a result of
copper as well. “When you see a green or blue firework, that’s because there’s copper in that fire,” Smolinsky said.
