A Cicada Summer

School’s almost out and it’s time for that hot girl summer everyone’s been waiting for! But a feeble little insect has different plans in store. With Virginia’s last cicada summer occurring back in 2004, many TJ students haven’t even been around to experience one. 2021 marks the rise of a storm of cicadas named Brood X. Their cycle of emergence, predation, mating, birth, and death are expected to last for around 6 weeks, so the next time we’ll see these critters will be in 2038!
