SGA’s Treasurer (Bhaswith Suresh), President (Sean Nguyen), Secretary (Jordan Lee), and Vice President (Tiffany Ji) dress up as Alvin and the Chipmunks for TV/Movie Tuesday. This year the SGA had to take a different approach to spirit weeks due to online schooling. “We just wanted some way to engage students while virtual and connect us through pictures because a lot of people keep their cameras off in class,” Ji said.

Jefferson’s Student Government Association hosted a virtual spirit week from Monday, Nov. 9 to Friday, Nov. 13. The themes for this spirit week were Among us Monday, TV Tuesday, Wacky Sweater Wednesday, Team Thursday, and Flannel Friday.

Sophomore Sophie King directed the virtual spirit week to promote engagement and connection in the student community.

“The main challenge was that it would be difficult to get people to participate online due to this year’s conditions,” King said.

This challenge was solved by creating a raffle system for participants in order to win a $10 Amazon gift card, there being a winner for each spirit day.

“We created a raffle system where participants can enter by submitting a photo in a form or posting on their Instagram story,” King said.  “Winners are selected by a random name generator live; we actually choose a different name five times and the fifth person chosen wins the prize.”

Students who participated in SGA’s spirit week believed it to be an entertaining way to show spirit virtually.

“I love showing school spirit, and there was also free money involved,” sophomore Rushil Umaretiya said. “And it’s fun to see everyone else dress up.”
