Every day at 4:45 p.m. in the auditorium lobby, new P.E. instructor Ryan Wood takes roll and gets on a bus to Glasgow Middle School with a team of girls.  Since the previous freshman basketball coach moved up to coach the JV team, Wood took on the task of coaching freshman girls basketball.

Wood has been involved with basketball his entire life and has coached for a long time. He is here at Jefferson  part time having  replaced Jacob Rapp who left for a full time position at South County. However, this year is his first year coaching a girls basketball team.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect the first few days but we have got a great bunch of girls,” Wood said. “Sure, coaching girls is a lot different than coaching guys but they have a lot of potential. I can’t wait to see them in action.

The team’s first game is on Dec. 11 at Langley High School. The girls on the freshman team are pumped to start the season with a new coach.

“I’m a little nervous,” freshman co-captain Anusha Basana said. “We know that Langley has a great team but we have been practicing hard and I’m confident we will do great.”
