Placing second in districts, the girl’s JV Cross-Country team’s spirit is widely apparent.

While the cross-country season started at the beginning of the school year, the practices themselves started in June. After numerous practices and meets, on Oct. 16, the Junior Varsity (JV) Girl’s Cross Country team had their districts meet. Placing second overall, five Jefferson girls comprised the top 15 runners, and one comprised the top five runners. Participating in her second year in cross-country, sophomore Ashely Chen placed third in the top five runners.

While there are no JV regionals, the runners emphasize it is the spirit of the other members of the team cheering them on that made the meet so special.

“Usually, we don’t have everyone at the meet, but this time, the coach made everyone come so there were a lot more people cheering,” Chen said. “The track was a loop so whenever you ran by them, it was super motivating.”

Overall, their goal is to improve their mile times and have fun.

“Mainly, I want to form closer bonds with my team, have a good season, and get faster as a team,” junior Julia Kao-Sowa said.
