Scrabble Club ties linguistics to strategy

Students play scrabble during 8th period.

Every Friday during eighth period A and B blocks, the Jefferson Scrabble Club meets in T 7.  Two successive groups of 20 or so students engage in thought provoking games, some consisting of competitive Scrabble experts and others composed of low key friends having a good time.

Social studies teacher and Scrabble club sponsor Aaron Sacks is an avid Scrabble player himself. Sacks started the club three years ago when he noticed an interest in Scrabble among his summer school students.

“I like Scrabble Cub because it ties together linguistics, strategy, reward and risk scenarios, and mathematical optimization in a fun and social package,” said senior Sid Sivakumar, a charter member of the club.
