      As the winter season comes to a close, athletes, c As the winter season comes to a close, athletes, coaches, and staff reflect on the first VHSL season during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through regulations and restrictions, the season was a success with few COVID-related issues.

“At first I was a little wary about doing a winter sport especially during these times, but it turned out to be the one thing I look forward to,” sophomore Nandini Shyamala said. “Our team and coaches worked together to make it work, making this a great season even with the unusual conditions.”

Here are some highlights from the 2020-2021 Winter Sports season.
      Yesterday, Jan. 19th, TJ Broadcast covered freshma Yesterday, Jan. 19th, TJ Broadcast covered freshman Evan Huang, a newcomer to the Jefferson varsity basketball team, and how the pandemic has affected his first basketball winter season.

“Being a freshman on a varsity basketball team can be extremely scary, but I think Evan has shouldered that with a lot of confidence,” sophomore Nathan Singhvi said. "He doesn't back away from scoring; instead, he takes the shot, thinking he'll make it."

      • TJ AD differs from other quiz competition teams at Jefferson. “The main difference between AD and clubs like the Science and Bio Olympiads are the range of topics that competitors are tested on. Sci Oly and Bio Oly focus on science, but AD tests on a lot more than that. It could be thought of as similar to Quizbowl, but Quizbowl focuses solely on testing knowledge, and AD has the essay, interview, and speech portions too,” junior Sameesksha Garg said.
