My grandmother’s super-secret baked beans recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of baked beans (16 oz, my grandmother always uses B&M brand, but any brand is fine)
  • 1/2 onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 lb bacon
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Place a frying pan on medium heat
  2. Fry the bacon in the pan
  3. Remove bacon from pan and pat dry of grease with a paper towel
  4. Remove bacon grease from pan, leaving approx. 2 tbsp grease
  5. Fry the onions in the bacon grease, but only until they are still crunchy
  6. Add beans to pan
  7. Add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar
  8. Crumble or chop bacon and add
  9. Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally for approx. 10 minutes
