Jefferson orchestra plays for Orchestra Assessment
March 18, 2013
The three Jefferson orchestras attended the Orchestra Assessment at W.T. Woodson High School on March 16.
The Concert, Symphonia and Symphonic orchestras all participated in the assessments to receive grades from three judges to see how they performed.
They were graded on a scale of one to five, with one being a superior. They were judged on technique, intonation, appearance and other categories.
“I think the orchestra assessment was a great experience, because I really improved as a musician, and I think our orchestra learned a lot from it,” said freshman Ananya Suri, who is a member of the Symphonia orchestra.
The assessment consisted of one performance graded by three judges and one sight-reading test for the orchestra. Concert Orchestra received ones from all four judges; Symphonia received 3 ones and 1 two; and Symphonic was awarded all ones.
