On Friday, Sept. 26th, two pep rallies were held during 7th period and 8th period. There were two blocks for the pep rallies, block A and B. In these pep rallies, students from all four classes cheered on their classmates as they participated in a performance for Musical Extravaganza (MEX). Other events included a performance from Jefferson’s dance team, stunts from the Jefferson’s cheer teams, an introduction to Jefferson’s varsity football team, the announcement of the final scores for the Homecoming events and a speech from Principal Michael Mukai.
One of the organizations responsible for organizing the pep rallies is FroshComm, a committee that serves as the temporary student government for the freshmen until elections are held in Nov. They are responsible for planning events involving the freshmen, mostly during homecoming week.
“It was really fun doing the pep rally, especially doing the skits,” FroshComm member Elizabeth Lee said. “I liked working with the people on FroshComm and making the posters and props.”
This makes it crucial for skits to be planned out precisely, since they are one of the only things that the class councils are directly responsible for performing.
“I think the pep rally would’ve been better if we had planned out our skits earlier and if more people came to the pep rally,” Lee said. “I also think there could have been more hype. [People were] dropping out of MEX and not really showing up to the pep rally.”
A big factor in the success of the pep rally is the audience. If they aren’t in the right mood, the whole atmosphere of the pep rally can be destroyed . Both the A and B pep rallies were successful, with all skits and performances seemingly going as planned.
“I think the pep rallies went really well for freshman year,” Lee said. “I’m really proud we got most spirited on one of the days.”
Although some things could’ve gone better, like MEX production and having a bigger hype squad, the pep rallies were a huge success. Many students enjoyed watching the pep rallies or being a part of the production.
“Watching the pep rallies was definitely my favorite part of the homecoming week,” Routman said. “I really enjoyed it.”
