While most students were doing homework or preparing for Homecoming on the afternoon of Oct. 13, senior Sarah Eltinge and her friends decided to travel to Great Falls Park, in Maryland.

The trip, that many seniors make each year, is an extra credit assignment for Geosystems that is designed to get students to observe earth systems outside of the classroom setting. Great Falls Park is one of the many places that students can visit to complete the assignment.

While a number of students, like Eltinge, went to visit the park this Saturday, others decided to go on Columbus Day.

“My friends and I decided to take advantage of the three day weekend and hike at Great Falls,” senior Julia Anderson said.

Despite the cold weather on either day, many students agreed that they had a good time hiking with friends.

“Besides the cold weather, I thought the whole trip went pretty well. We completed the hike quicker than expected and had time to climb some rocks and explore the river up close,” Anderson said.
