U.Va. interest meeting attracts full house

Senior Samyu Jothishankar views the U.Va. poster outside the College Career Center.

The College Career Center was packed on Sept. 26 with more than 80 students gathered for the University of Virginia (U.Va.) interest meeting. While most students were seniors, several juniors were also in attendance.

As soon as everyone settled in, Jeaninne Lalonde, senior assistant dean of admissions kicked off the meeting by talking about the application process and its various components. Additionally, she discussed U.Va.’s various schools, different educational programs, financial aid and various application deadlines.

While this information may have been new to the juniors present at the meeting, many seniors felt they already knew the information Lalonde covered. However, the meeting did give them a new perspective on college applications.

“I already knew most of the things she said, but I got a better feel for what the school was about and how they look at admissions,” senior Ryan Feng said.

This interest meeting was just one of many taking place during lunch and eighth periods over the past two weeks. As application deadlines approach, more colleges will be visiting in the near future.
