After a 44-year career as a teacher, six of which were spent at Jefferson, history teacher Tom Sleete is leaving the school.

“I am going to do a lot of work for the College Board as a consultant, and I might teach one class at a private school in Michigan,” Sleete said.

He has sponsored both Teenage Republicans and American Sign Language.

“I now know how to say ‘I hate you’ in a sign,” Sleete said.

As a teacher, Sleete will be remembered for his engaging lectures, sense of humor and fascination with Theodore Roosevelt.

“Mr. Sleete made APUSH really fun and enjoyable,” senior Lauren Huang said. “He’s one of the most effective, most experienced and funniest teachers I’ve ever known.”
