18 Jefferson students named Siemens Competition semifinalists

On Oct. 16, the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology announced semifinalists for its 2014 round.

Seniors Pranav Balan, Matthew Barbano, Pooja Chandrashekar, Saelig Khattar, Annika Kim, Dennis Kim, Janice Ong, Winston Ou, Rohan Pandit and Jessica Wu, juniors Andrew Charbonneau, Matthew Guo, Andrew Huang, Rohan Pandit, Pranay Singh, Jason Wei and Michael You and sophomore Neeraj Prasad were the 18 out of 23 students chosen for Virginia. Some of these students are currently working as a team.

The Siemens Competition, funded by the Siemens Foundation, recognizes innovative and remarkable science research projects completed by high school students. The competition also provides scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Regional finalists are qualified to compete at one of the six regional competitions held in November and will be announced on Oct. 20.
